Description of Research Expertise

My primary expertise and research interest is orthopedic pathology with focus on equine laminitis. A current project involves collaboration with UPENN's Laminitis Institute at the School of Veterinary Medicine, New Bolton Center. The goal of the project is to systematically characterize and grade the histopathological changes that occurr within the pedal bone and sensitive lamina of the hoof during and after naturally occurring episodes of laminitis. This data is to be correlated with pathological molecular data analyzed by Dr. Hannah Gallantino-Homer's Laboratory.

A secondary focus involves collaboration with Dr. Thomas Schaer at the New Bolton Center's Comparative Orthopedic Research Laboratory (CORL), which utilizes various animal models to evaluate experimental orthopedic surgical implant devices and biomaterials.

A teritiary research interest pertains to gastrointestinal pathology in horses (post ischemic injury, inflammation and post-surgical enteric wound healing). This is a collaboration with Dr. Louise Southwood, Dept. of Clinical Studies- New Bolton Center.
